Renjun

Huang Renjun (Chinese: 黃仁俊; born 23 March 2000), known mononymously as Renjun (Korean: 런쥔), is a Chinese singer based in South Korea. He debuted in August 2016 as a member of the South Korean boy band NCT through its fixed sub-unit NCT Dream. Renjun made his solo debut with the EP Echoes Between Us, released on 1 June 2026.

01Early life and education

Huang Renjun was born in Jilin, China, on 23 March 2000. Growing up in northeast, China near the Korean peninsula, he was exposed to the Korean language and culture from a young age, allowing him to grow up bilingual in Mandarin and Korean. He was inspired to pursue a career in K-pop by the boy band Exo, particularly by the international success of the group's Chinese member Lay. He graduated from the Beijing Contemporary Music School with full marks in 2020, alongside his future NCT bandmate Chenle.

02Career

2016-2023: Debut with NCT Dream

In January 2015, Renjun passed the SM Global Audition in Shenyang and joined SM Entertainment as a trainee in July 2015. On 21 August 2016, he was announced as a member of the upcoming group NCT Dream, and debuted with the unit on 25 August 2016 with the single "Chewing Gum".

Beginning on 5 August 2019, Renjun joined TBS eFM 101.3MHz's Chinese-language radio programme Akdong Seoul as a special guest DJ, a position that drew upon his bilingual background. Originally contracted for two months, he was announced as a permanent DJ on 20 September 2019, with the programme airing from Monday to Friday. His final live broadcast took place on 8 October 2020.

On 20 May 2020, Renjun and Chenle's graduation song "A New Beginning" was released by the Beijing Contemporary Music School on Chinese music platforms.

On 12 October 2020, Renjun made his debut in the sub-unit NCT U as part of NCT's two-part second studio album NCT 2020 Resonance, featuring on the single "From Home".

On 26 September 2023, Renjun was among the NCT members, alongside Chenle, Kun and Xiaojun, to receive the Recommended Popular Artist of the Year award at the 2023 Weibo Music Awards.

2024-present: Hiatus and solo debut with Echoes Between Us

In early April 2024, Renjun publicly expressed distress a sasaeng obtained his personal phone number and sent him abusive messages. On 20 April 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Renjun had been hospitalised due to poor physical health and symptoms of anxiety, and that medical staff had advised him to rest. As a result, he suspended all activities, including the opening dates of NCT Dream's third concert tour, The Dream Show 3: Dream( )scape. Four months later, in August 2024, SM Entertainment confirmed that Renjun's health had improved and that he would participate in NCT Dream's debut English single "Rains in Heaven", though he would not join the American leg of the concert tour on the medical team's advice. On 7 October 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Renjun would fully resume activities after approximately six months of hiatus, rejoining NCT Dream on tour at their Rotterdam stop on 30 October 2024.

Renjun digitally released his debut extended play, Echoes Between Us, on Chinese music platforms on 1 June 2026, while its lead single of the same name was pre-released on 26 May 2026. He held a sold-out showcase at the Mango Hall of the Hunan International Exhibition and Convention Center in Changsha, China, on June 13. In August 2026, it was announced that Renjun's solo activities in China would manage by STE.

03Philanthropy

In May 2017, Renjun, together with fellow NCT Dream member Chenle, volunteered with CJ Dream Classroom in Nanjing as part of a global social contribution programme providing cultural arts education for children of Chinese labourers.
