Pressurization or pressurisation is the application of pressure in a given situation or environment.

Industrial

Industrial equipment is often maintained at pressures above or below atmospheric.

Atmospheric

This is the process by which atmospheric pressure is maintained in an isolated or semi-isolated atmospheric environment (for instance, in an aircraft, or whilst scuba diving).

Cabin pressurization

Cabin pressurization is a process in which conditioned air is pumped into the cabin of an aircraft or spacecraft in order to create a safe and comfortable environment for humans flying at high altitudes. For aircraft, this air is usually bled off from the gas turbine engines at the compressor stage, and for spacecraft, it is carried in high-pressure, often cryogenic, tanks.

Compressed air

Compressed air is air kept under a pressure that is greater than atmospheric pressure. Compressed air in vehicle tires and shock absorbers are commonly used for improved traction and reduced vibration.

Decompression (diving)

The decompression of a diver is the reduction in ambient pressure experienced during ascent from depth or depressurisation of a diving chamber. It is also the process of elimination of dissolved metabolically inert gases from the diver's body tissues which accumulated during the dive.
