Kashubian Landscape Park

Kashubian Landscape Park (Polish: Kaszubski Park Krajobrazowy, Kashubian: Kaszëbsczi Park Krajòbrazny) is a Landscape Park, a Polish protected area classification, in northern Poland. It represents the natural landscape of and is named after the historic Kashubian culture that existed in this region.

01Geography

The Kashubian Landscape Park covers an area of 332.02 square kilometres (128.19 sq mi), and was established in 1983. The Park lies within Pomeranian Voivodeship: in Kartuzy County (Gmina Kartuzy, Gmina Chmielno, Gmina Sierakowice, Gmina Somonino), Wejherowo County (Gmina Linia), and Kościerzyna County (Gmina Kościerzyna, Gmina Nowa Karczma).

The Kashubians, also known as Cassubians or Kashubs, are a West Slavic ethnic group native to the historical region of Pomerania, including its eastern part called Pomerelia, in north-central Poland. Their settlement area is referred to as Kashubia.

List of Landscape Parks of Poland

According to the Act on Protection of Nature of 2004, a Landscape Park (Parki Krajobrazowe) is defined as "an area protected because of its natural, historical, cultural and scenic values, for the purpose of conserving and popularizing those values in conditions of balanced development." Decisions on the creation, liquidation and boundaries of Landscape Parks are taken by resolution of the provincial assembly (voivodeship sejmik).
