Combatives are hand-to-hand combat systems used by members of the military and law enforcement, security personnel and corrections officers. Combatives are based in martial arts but are not distinct disciplines.

The US Modern Army Combatives Program was adopted as the basis for the US Air Force Combatives Program in January 2008. Combatives training has also been provided outside of the military, for example at Kansas State University which provided a training programme for 2+1⁄2 years before closing it in 2010.

Marine Corps Martial Arts Program

The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program is a combat system developed by the United States Marine Corps to combine existing and new hand-to-hand and close quarters combat techniques with morale and team-building functions and instruction in the warrior ethos. The program, which began in 2001, trains Marines (and U.S. Navy personnel attached to Marine units) in unarmed combat, edged weapons, weapons of opportunity, and rifle and bayonet techniques.

Defendu

Close Quarters Combat System is a hybrid martial art utilized by British military personnel, notably during the Second World War. It was developed by William E. Fairbairn and Eric A. Sykes in the 1920s.

All-In Fighting

All-In Fighting is a hand-to-hand combat manual used by British Commandos during World War II. The book illustrated the use of the commando dagger and unarmed combat skills. In addition to unarmed combat skills, All-In Fighting also includes a section by Captain P.N. Walbridge on how to use and shoot the Lee-Enfield rifle, the Pattern 1914 Enfield rifle, and the M1917 Enfield in close-quarters combat.
